Swift Book

The Cathedral holds a collection of early prints of the works of Jonathan Swift. Here, you will see one such example. These books are very delicate and so each one is displayed for only a short time before being returned to storage and swapped with another.

Swift wrote prolifically across a variety of themes and forms, including political essays and pamphlets, sermons, poetry, and books. He is celebrated as one of the greatest satirists from the Georgian era, and his work has influenced later writers including Mark Twain and George Orwell.
