Cathedral Seals

These seals were mounted on the railings. It shows the ‘Common Seal of the Chapter of the Cathedral’. There are the royal symbols of England and France at the top, with the House of Tudor symbols around it. There is an olive tree, with broken-off branches, and the Latin ‘noli altum sapare’ (‘be not high minded’); this is an allegorical device based on a story from Romans 11.
